close enough

I didn't make a broom, but I am satisfied with her :)

Deeper into the Rabbit hole!

I started researching the larger scale dolls, and I learned that the best seems to be Volks.

So, being me, I ordered a few of them to be able to work out patterns.

Yowsa, these things are the opposite of inexpensive.

This is actually the first edition of the Dollfie Dream series.
I got it reasonably priced off of eBay and I'm going to completely restore her to what she looked like originally.

which of course means MORE pattern drafting!!!
Poor me, however will I survive?

Apparently the original outfit sort of disintegrated from too much sunlight exposure, but she came with all the original documentation and her original box!

Fun times ahead!

Mad as a Hatter!

The hat is hatty!
it's hat like and hattish even!

To be honest

I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing.
I'm pretty much winging it in a lot of ways!
The corset piece needs to be wider, and slightly different.
the hat is under way, and then I gotta make gloves!

Marching on!

So here we have the second skirt layer in place:

I gotta add the trim, and do some general thingying!

Behind her you can see what I would now feel comfortable referring to as my trusty 830.

I got a straight stitch foot and plate for this machine and all of a sudden my doll clothing creation changed.
Don't get me wrong, working on my featherweights was not arduous or unfun.
But this girl has SPACE!

I'm not cramped!
I could rest a sandwich on the bed of the machine while sewing.
I wouldn't, but I could!

First level of the Wicked Witch dress.

So it begins!
This is the bodice/first layer of the dress.
Now I have to do the lower skirt, the corset, the hat, the gloves and the brooom!

How very odd

I find myself exceedingly excited to be working on a larger scale.
The possibilities for decoration and adornment are virtually limitless.

Basically, at this scale I can pull most of the tricks I'd pull at full size, but with 1/3 the material requirements!

I'm very excited to get this first project done and sold and then start working on new designs!

Some of the inspiration images.
I am combining both versions of the witch for my design.

Testing testing 1 2 3

So, I created a pattern and a test dress for this 70cm Bobobie doll.
It's very interesting to see the differences a change in scale makes.

There's a joke in there somewhere.....

The studio is finished.

So, I am taking this blog in another new direction.
I don't have the time for a lot of repairs anymore, which means I will be limiting my machine purchasing and/or repairing efforts.

Instead I am focusing more and more on the doll side of things.

I've been working on outfits for the Monster High dolls:

As well as the 1/6th scale Obitsu ball joint dolls:

And I decided to take a leap further.
Into the 1/3 scale field.
She's 70cm, and green.
So I'm going to do the Wicked Witch of the West/Elphaba!

But that requires drafting an entirely new set of patterns..
