Next version.. slight technical difficulties...

The stitching on this silk just isn't working.

So, what have I learned so far?
This is the wrong fabric for this design, and if I want to make something like this I need to use a walking foot...

I started thinking

about Asian design.
The clean lines, the bold colors...

From the cheongsam, which is frankly pretty horrible to wear

To something more ... Indianish
But that didn't really hit the right note with me either.

And then I remembered the Ao Dai!
which serves as a perfect base for my first design in this series:

so, check back later.
We'll see how things go!

Almost done.
I am considering a dark green lace along the hem of the skirt tiers..

next

on the list of things to do:
a modified natural form dress...
ok, probably not THIS ornate on the first attempt.
I'm modifying the design as well, altering the neckline, changing the sleeves, and adding a hood!

This is actually a little out of my comfort zone.

Here it is

Comparison...

the older version is a bit more flattering, the skirt lower on the waist.
But the new model is closer to the original design

Next version of the exercise outfit

is complete!
This one is a lot more....finished.
I figured out most of the mistakes I made on the first one.
and this is the result!

The Genie.. no lamp

So.
I sewed on the Genie:
It's a black silk blouse!

The machine is good.
There are a few flaws in it's design. Overall it's portability and ease of use make it a worthy addition.

next machine

This is another 'I picked it up to sell' machine.
But the more I poke at it the more impressed I am.
Normally I HATE the Singer Machines from the 70s.
But this one has a lot of the same attention to design and detail that made the 221 such a wonderful machine.

Yes, the body is plastic. Unlike your 200$ Brother machines from Wal-Mart, beneath the plastic is a frame of metal.

It uses class 66 bobbins, like pretty much every other top loading machine.
It's quiet.

And it sews through 8 layers or costume pleather....
Not bad for a cheesy little "Barbie Machine"
(If it were pink I'd be keeping it)

Exercise outfit 1..

I made a LOT of mistakes in making this first exerdress...
But I'm still happy enough with the final result.
the next one will be even better!

Ok, I lied!

Next up was a black outfit...

Next up

I plan to make a few 'exercise dresses'
What's that?
Well...
sort of exercise clothing that is based on:

The first Iteration will be sleeveless:

Tablet case!

Still learning the techniques.
But all in all, I'm not unhappy with this.
It's quilted!

And a swaddler.

I'm going to be making a bunch of different stuff for a bit..
Tablet and cell phone cases, among other things, like this swaddler!

Finished green dress!
