Small break.

I'm taking a 'short' 'vacation' for about a month :)
So postings will be few and far between.
In the meantime...
I have no idea.

Resizing the shirt

Because the original was just a tad too small...
I make the new copies a little bigger.
I'm probably doing this the dumb way, but then again it's not really rocket science..
there are 6 pieces in total...

One of my 'things'..

I take the left over scrap when I've finished a project, and I make a little bag.
Into that bag, I drop every quarter I get in change.
The first homeless person that asks me for spare change gets whatever is in the bag at that point, and I make a new one.
It may be a stupid thing to do, but I like to think this way they get both cash and a well made little bag to stick things in.

Well then!

I had planned to do this bit yesterday too, but then things happened and blah blah blah..
So I am working on a light blue version of the hooded thing.
Now, it's not the most technically challenging item, I mean....there are 5 pieces to it.
My solution to the sizing dilemma?
Make it BIGGER!

Todya's first entry:

The pink set is done!
The 1030 handled the silk beautifully.
It actually makes me want to make MORE like this!

It seems

I have indeed found the perfect maid, for me!
She is able to handle my overly controlling nature quite well it seems, and she's got no issues with formal address/service. Yay!
We'll see how everything pans out after a few months of service. But for now, I am hopeful. Once we get her uniformed and started, I think she'll be a tremendous addition to the household.

I used some of the excess fabric from my new undies to make a handkerchief. Then I trimmed the whole thing with 2 layers of lace. :)
I like frilly. I like frilly enough that if I had sufficient material I'd probably add a ruffle around the whole thing!

minor miscalculation

in the amount of lace I'll need for the leg ruffles....

Satin continued

So here's the top to the pink set.
I did a few stupid things, but that's ok.
I'll learn from them!
The machine handles the fabric like a champ.

Two things..

First,
here's the top I dismantled to turn it into a pattern to make more just like it:
My versions are not grey...

Secondly,
Here's the pink satin underwear in progress:
I'll add more pictures, both of the underwear set as I work on it, and the tops I've made/am making from that original form.

They say

the true test of a machine is how it handles problem fabrics..
And for me the biggest problem has always been...
Satin.

It just never seems to want to sit right without extensive pinning/gluing.

Well today I'll be working on an underwear set in pink satin...
so, we shall see how the 1030 does.

Fabric!

I haven't been finding much worthy of note in my trips around this fair metropolis..

But one thing I have been finding in abundance?
FABRIC!

I've filled my cloth rack with bargains on bolts of fabric...
Today I got 5 yards of a nice quality pink satin for 2.99
I got an entire bolt of a nice cotton for 4.99, and a roll of a heavyweight wool for 7.99...

Hey, I may not be finding all the machines I'd hope for, but at least I have plenty of things to sew!

I'm working on another pair of machines, a Bernina 930 and 1230.

The 930 never ceases to amaze me. It's such a simple/well designed machine.
The 1230 is almost exactly the same machine as the 1130, but with added stitches.
